The Sam Bennett of ireland maintained his second point win for this year’s Vuelta a Espana on stage 14 in Oviedo.
The rider crossed ahead with Belgian Tosh van der Sande of Max Richeze of Argentina in third .
The end was dominated by a crash at the last kilometre which prevented a mass sprint to the line and took out many in the peloton.
Race leader Primoz Roglic of Slovenia endured a fall in the wreck but did not lose any time.
The 188km point was designed to be quieter day following two weeks from the saddle and with mountain biking to return on Monday and Sunday.
Entering the final kilometre riders were sent tumbling on an incline, although it had been gearing up to get a couple finish.
Bennett appreciated a comfortable victory than he could have imagined as Richeze and Van der Sande was overtaken by him at the last 500m, and was already ahead of that.
It was his second La Vuelta stage victory after winning his fifth in a Grand Tour, along with point three years on 26 August at the 2018 Giro d’Italia following three.
The 28-year-old is getting an exceptional season with this his 13th success.
“I am just thrilled,” Bennett told Eurosport. “I have reached my goal to the season, but there are another one or two more wins .”
