Video Assistant Referees ‘happy’ with technology and high bar to stay in place
Video assistant referees (VARs) stay”happy” by how their technologies has been utilized from the Premier League and don’t have any immediate plans to change their own’high pub’ before intervention, Sky Sports News understands.
VAR was included in controversy following incidents in the weekend between Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, the Sebastien Haller of West Ham, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish along with Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden.
Villa had a last-gasp equaliser ruled out afterwards Grealish was adjudged to have dived earlier in the move, Haller had a penalty appeal turned against Norwich, Tielemans wasn’t red-carded for a nasty tackle on Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Hayden’s handball from the run-up to Fabian Schar’s goal in the home to Watford was missed.
The Professional Game Match Officials Board [PGMOL] will hold a regular meeting with referees this week to assess the most recent form of Premier League matches.
It’s known they’ll discuss when VAR is used but there are no plans to recommend any changes to the’high bar’ in place prior intervention.
Referees are to use monitors to examine any decisions following advice to avoid slowing the match down.
Monitor checks may take an average of about 90 minutes and also the PGMOL has encouraged its own officials to utilize the screen .
No referee has utilized the track in 40 Premier League games so far.
The prior referee responsible for VAR’s debut has stated supporters will need to”trust” them following high-profile events this season.
Neil Swarbrick admits it might take up to 3 years for everybody to adjust from the game to VARs.
“I think it takes a few years [for use to it], to be honest,” Swarbrick told Sky Sports News last month.
“You may have people who like football the way it was and don’t need any modifications, you receive your purists who just like the referees to go outside, make conclusions, and, should they get it right, get it wrong, they can live with that.”
