Tyson Fury vowed not to underestimate underdog Otto Wallin at a Las Vegas news conference at which the heavyweight claimed he could understand Spanish.
Fury, 31, takes on Wallin on Saturday night, filling the coveted Sin City battle night held yearly over Independence Day weekend.
28, wallin, has 20 wins from 20 battles but Fury is a 1-25 bookies’ favorite.
“I don’t underestimate anyone, I’ll respect everyone,” said Fury.
“I could train to get a guy like he has 20 knockouts in a row. The tall southpaw is a struggle but I haven’t met a question that I couldn’t conquer or even a mountain I could not climb – that he will not be any exception.
“Hopefully we proceed for a beer after.”
Fury has attempted to align himself. He has referred to himself as”El Rey Gitano”, which means”The Gypsy King”.
At one point in the news conference, a reporter contested Fury to understand a question asked in Spanish.
After at first offering a stock answer, Fury reasoned:”And yes, I do love cuddly toys and crayons, thank you for asking.”
His response drew widespread laughter and Fury subsequently told another reporter poised to ask a question if it was asked in Spanish, he could understand.
“I wasn’t supposed to stay with this weekend,” Fury added.
“When we noticed Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez wouldn’t be fighting in vegas on this weekend I thought what a shock. This has been a weekend for many years. I thought the Mexican people are not going to have a major event, and so I brought my fight date forward four months.”
Together with Fury’s entourage, including his brother Tommy and Love Island celebrity Molly Mae, enjoying his funny display, his UK promoter Frank Warren sought to focus minds by saying how much was at stake against Wallin given a rematch with WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is set for early at 2020.
“One punch can change the whole thing,” worried Warren.
Fury included:”Is Wallin out me? Surely not. I don’t know much about Otto and that is a great thing.
“Sometimes once you understand a lot about a competition it doesn’t turn me fully, when it’s unknown it is much more exciting.
“I feel great, fit, have trained very tough, weight is perfect, trauma free, sharp, rejuvenated. I feel prepared for a fight. I’m as powerful as I have been.”
Fury will next arrive face-to-face prior to a T-Mobile Arena bout where he’ll seek to extend his record of 28 wins and a draw, with Wallin in Friday’s weigh-in.
US promoter Bob Arum pointed Wallin could draw from the jolt brought on by Swedish heavyweight Ingemar Johansson in arriving to stun the mythical Floyd Paterson.
Wallin responded:”I come from a little region in Sweden and now I am on the big stage. I’ve dreamed of this and am prepared to put it all on the line.
“I’m well schooled, I’ve good offence, defence and I believe I have what it takes to lead to an upset.”
Saturday’s bout will be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live with full live text commentary about the BBC Sport website and is anticipated to start at about 05:00 BST in the united kingdom.
