Tis Marvellous out to resume winning ways in Scarbrough Stakes
Clive Cox’s Tis Marvellous Wants to bounce back by a luckless run in the Beverley Bullet as he Intends That the DC Coaching And Development Services Scarbrough Stakes.
Despite going into post as the 2-1 favorite coming house fifth of 10, the five-year-old had travelled to Beverley off the rear of a victory in a five-furlong tradition handicap at Ascot, having finished second in the Wokingham.
“He won quite well at Ascot, subsequently did not get the simplest of passages in the Beverley Bullet,” said Cox.
“He’s come back in excellent form, he has had a fantastic season so hopefully this can be a good opportunity for him”
El Astronaute will measure back down to Listed business as he tries to assert the race this past year, that he lost by a head.
The six-year-old was narrowly beaten by Applause in last year’s competition and has competed in firm with success.
At the track, the boy of Approve finished second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes after successive wins at the Rockingham Handicap in the Curragh along with the Listed Midsummer Sprint in Cork.
During that spell of form he outperformed three of his Scarbrough rivals – Duke Of Firenze, Dark Shot and Equilateral.
“We are very satisfied with him and he really likes Doncaster,” said Quinn.
“He ran quite well in the race last year. Tis Marvellous will be the one they’ve got to conquer, his kind is very great.”
Equilateral hasn’t been seen since his experience with El Astronaute at the Curragh, where he finished three and a half lengths behind seven lengths behind the winner and John Quinn’s gelding.
The four-year-old colt was formerly second to Mabs Cross at the Group Three Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, missing out by a neck.
Speaking of his Scarbrough entry, trainer Charlie Hills stated:”It is the race we have been waiting for.
“Obviously he has won in the track before, it is a race he should be operating very well in.”
Elsewhere over five furlongs is the Michael Dods-trained Queens Donation, next to Judicial from the Beverley Bullet plus a winner in the line-up this year.
Scott Dixon’s Dark Mirror, David Griffiths’ Duke Of Firenze along with James Fanshawe’s Archer’s Dream are also in the mix, together with the latter looking to come back to shape after his three-race winning streak came to an end when ninth in the Group Three Summer Stakes at York.
