Sunderland takeover edges closer as American consortium registers new company
The takeover of Sunderland is currently edging nearer after the American consortium in talks with the League One club registered a brand new company .
“FPP Sunderland Ltd” was lodged on Monday as a vehicle to facilitate the proposed takeover by MSD Parners LP, a New York City-based investment firm that manages the funds of computer magnate Michael Dell and family.
With Dell a minority investor, Robert Platek, John Phelan and trio Glenn Fuhrman will be the club control owners.
Although they’re aware this will take time their long term plan is to return Sunderland into the Premier League.
Proprietor Stewart Donald, that has been for 16 weeks at the helm, will maintain a stake in the club and both he and Charlie Methven will probably remain integral to its day-to-day operations.
Donald, who bought the League One team for just #40m, stated last month the bargain will be”hugely exciting”.
“We’ve got a favorite partner, somebody that we believe can do what we’ve talked about performing and come together to select the club to another level,” he said.
“I hope that we can get the deal within the line because I believe that it’s a hugely exciting deal for all of the appropriate reasons.”
A deal to market the club into a Different US-businessman, Mark Campbell fell through in July.
Sunderland are fourth in Sky Bet League One with four wins, three draws and a defeat.
