Stevenage claim racism allegations about Mark Sampson have ‘no foundation’
Stevenage state that racism allegations encircling their caretaker director Mark Sampson have”no foundation”
Sampson was named boss in Broadhall Way on Monday following the dismissal of both Dino Maamria.
The Football Association is investigating a complaint which the former Lionesses manager used language.
A statement read:”Stevenage Football Club can restate this, after an internal investigation, allegations of racially discriminatory language brought against Caretaker Manager Mark Sampson reported at the national press yesterday have no base.
“The allegations were called in to the FA by a former coach the day after he had been informed by Sampson that he no longer required his services at the club”
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said,”Like every professional team, regardless of where the criticism comes in, we follow rigorous procedures, which have been followed to the letter.
“The prosecution had been offered the chance to create an official complaint but declined this opportunity, rather deciding to predict the FA.
“Nevertheless, CEO Alex Tunbridge acted immediately to interview and take statements from two people the plaintiff mentioned were witnesses, as well as others that were present in precisely the identical meeting, but not mentioned by the claimant.
“In every case that the witnesses didn’t support the allegations. Given that overwhelming consequence and the conditions of this allegation, the team reasoned there was no case to answer.
“Maybe now the FA have the evidence, they’ll make it clear there’s not any case to answer.
“Guilt by association – particularly when the person is well known – is a frequent weapon to use against people in the eye and when we find it does not have any base, we should be equally clear at making that known.”
The 36-year-old was sacked from his role as head coach of the England Women team in 2017, following accusations of discrimination and bullying.
News surfaced he had a relationship with a participant during his time as coach at Bristol Academy, that led to his dismissal.
The FA said that the allegations were researched and Sampson was cleared of any wrongdoing.
