Stephen Warnock fears for Manchester City without former captain Vincent Kompany
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock says he is concerned about Manchester City’s defence, even describing a few of the gamers as”not strong enough”
City suffered their first defeat of the year as Norwich beat them 3-2 in Carrow Road.
They were Aymeric Laporte who will overlook following knee surgery.
Warnock told Sky Sports News:”You seem at Manchester City’s seat at the rear, it’s not powerful enough and defences win you titles.
“The players who Liverpool have got to come into their assault will win them games, they are more than capable of scoring goals.
“Therefore I fear of Manchester City, I always stressed that [Vincent] Kompany leaving could be a huge loss for them, not just on the pitch but in and about the training ground, the mentality and understanding he’s.
“He didn’t play lots of games for City, however it had been the big games when he was wanted.”
City’s shock defeat to Norwich has left them five points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, and Warnock is impressed with all the power of the team of Jurgen Klopp.
“Everybody always says, if Liverpool lose one of the front three, they’re in big trouble because they’ll not score goals. I consider it the other way around.
“I think Liverpool’s pay in defence – they’ve got [Dejan] Lovren, they have got [Joe] Gomez – who are seated on the bench that aren’t enjoying and that are capable of playing at the first team very professionally.”
Nicolas Otamendi and john Stones started the game against Norwich, but their supervisor Pep Guardiola dismissed suggestions his side have a glaring weakness in their defence.
He told Sky Sports after the defeat:”It’s a venture which has played a lot. We’ve got Fernandinho and Rodri that will play there in circumstances and it is not a concern. Things happen.”
