Damian Willemse will start for South Africa against Canada on Tuesday – less than a week after arriving in Japan.
Full-back Willemse, that arrived on Thursday to replace Jesse Kriel, is just one of 13 changes produced by coach Rassie Erasmus for its World Cup Pool B game.
After beating Italy 49-3 on Friday south Africa have a seven-year turnaround.
Center Damian de Allende and Springboks captain Siya Kolisi have kept their locations.
Erasmus states Willemse, that had a recent stint with Saracens, could have probably made the World Cup team if he was not injured.
Willemse, 21, added:Im quite excited to perform with. Ive been outside for 3 months. I have got that hunger and its been great to get some game time for Sarries.
South Africa will be guaranteed a location in the quarter-finals by A bonus-point success over Canada, unless Italy stun New Zealand in their final pool game.
The Springboks lost their opening match of the tournament to the All Blacks, but have beaten on Italy and Namibia.
This game is equally as important as the three which weve already played, said Erasmus.
It has the identical number of log points offered and the identical effect on our odds of qualifying. We have to now complete the job.
If you look at the phases Canada produced against Italy [at a 48-7 conquer ] and how they botched a couple of attempts -they could have scored four or five really good attempts.
I have played against them and this group I have picked will know theyre searching for a physical conflict.
South Africa: Willemse, Gelant, De Allende, Steyn, Nkosi; Jantjies, Reinach; T Du Toit, Brits, Koch, Snyman, Mostert, Kolisi (capt), Smith, Louw.
Replacements: Marx, Kitshoff Ebtzebeth, P Du Toit, Jantjies, Pollard, Le Roux.
