Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and also Charles Leclerc state theyve set their dispute over group orders behind them in the Russian Grand Prix.
Vettel discounted orders to allow Leclerc by him several occasions in the first laps of this race, so reneging on a agreement between team and the drivers.
We spoke about it, even more than once. Its pretty clear and it is two weeks past, so moving forward, said Vettel.
Leclerc statedeverything is clear more than what he called amisunderstanding.
The 21-year-old from Monaco included:Obviously it felt like it was a massive bargain from the outside – that it definitely was not. But, yeah, everything is fine.
The teams agreement with the drivers before the race in Russia had been for Leclerc, who started from pole position, to provide Vettel, who began to the first corner to ensure they ran .
The plan had been for Leclerc to allow Vettel overtake him to the corner, but also for Vettel to allow him back into the lead.
However, Vettel refused to move over, first arguing then that Leclerc was too much behind for him to slow down and allow him past, and before doing the manoeuvre, they need to try to pull clear of Hamilton.
In the long run, the problem was solved at the pit stops, when Ferrari pitted Leclerc initial and conducted Vettel more, which allowed Leclerc to operate faster on new tyres and so be forward when Vettel left his pit stop, even though the team refused this had been deliberate.
Leclerc, who joined Ferrari this season, said it wasclear from the start of the year the pair had to comply with team orders added:Whats apparent is that the scenario was not clear for both of the drivers, beginning the race, and I think thats the main (entity ).
We spoke about it and we will ensure this situation doesnt happen again in the future
Vettel included:We did not write anything in stone. Obviously likely certain things we could have achieved better looking back in the end we all look forward to this race and also the next races.
The 32-year-old denied that his activities had been affected by the reality that Leclerc was out-performing him in recent races.
Leclerc has out-qualified Vettel nine days contains five sticks into his one, and has won two races and Vettel one.
Vettel stated:Clearly I am happy if I am slower, whether it is practice or qualifying or race. And that is the same not this season.
There are definite things this year (with which) I struggled here and there using the car which didnt allow me to maybe pull my best, however I dont think it would have been any different if anyone else would have been in the other vehicle.
Charles has been doing an excellent job, but its mostly, I typically think , a race against yourself and then the others. In that regard, I struggled to extract everything I understand I have in me.
But on the other side it also appears different on the outside than its on the interior. There have been races where matters perhaps didnt fall into place thus didnt look that good on the outside but we had been doing the perfect things and handling the ideal things on the interior, so I am not worried in that respect
Hamilton described the scenario at Ferrari asan intriguing dynamic, saying:Theres always going to be friction since youve got conflicting targets. Its a group but its also an individual game with two motorists and youre constantly trying to balance friction and that conflict.
Its managing from the top down. It is just how its managed, communication is key. There are different philosophies between these two teams and in the following years we will see how it functions.
It has not worked for quite a while with them and it probably wont in the future
