Joe Root needs to think about giving the England captaincy to enable him to regain his very best batting form based on former Test batsman Rob Key.
Root was out for a duck by simply taking a 2-1 series lead with a victory at the first Test at Old Trafford on 38, before Australia retained the Ashes for the third time in as many games.
Despite having managed England’s initial failure to win a home Ashes series as 2001, Root stated that he”definitely” remains the ideal person to lead the negative forward, starting with the fifth and final Test at the Oval on Thursday.
“At a certain stage, Joe Root has got to work out if the captaincy impacts his match,” Vital told Sky Sports News. “Forget the side and everything else. ‘Could I be successful and play as a batsman and also a captain , in terms of runs, as I have been in the past?’
“I believe his ordinary before he was captain was 50 and it’s since dropped to 40. This is what he has to reply, although that might be due to conditions – and only he could answer that.
“Whenever you request any sportsperson that query about whether they want to continue, they’re always likely to say’yes’ straight away, otherwise it’s just like giving up – and sportspeople don’t like giving up. But at some stage, Joe Root is going to need to sit down and actually think about if he wishes to continue and if he can be the batsman he wishes to become as a priest.”
Root has averaged 30.87 runs throughout the series, a figure considerably below his career mark of 48.03, while the astonishing type of Australia’s Steve Smith has further emphasised the England captain’s battles.
The weakness of England’s top-order batting compelled Root to promote himself a place out of his favorite No. 4 spot at the beginning of the string, which makes him frequently exposed to some new ball at the palms of Australia’s highly notable quick bowling lineup.

He’s got some fantastic deliveries and he will be hurting a bit with respect to not being able to perform the job and get those Ashes back, but it is a team effort – it is not simply down to the captain if he goes out there with this bat. It’s up to everyone.
“I believe he’s the ideal guy for the job. If he wants to continue to do that, I’d definitely him back.”
