Kansas City Chiefs 24-31 Houston Texans: Deshaun Watson stars in surprise win
Deshaun Watson Conducted in two touchdowns and threw for another as the Houston Texans upset the Kansas City Chiefs 31-24 in Arrowhead Stadium.
Even the Texans (4-2) regained from falling 17-3 behind in the first quarter to inflict a second straight home defeat the Chiefs (4-2).
Its the very first time the Chiefs raises more questions above their below-par shield, which struggled to stop the Texans throughout and have dropped back-to-back home games.
Former Chiefs running back Carlos Hyde ran for 116 yards and one touchdown, while Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill scored two touchdowns on his return from injury, but it was Texans quarterback Watson who starred as he won the battle with fellow 2017 draft pick Patrick Mahomes.
In the NFL assembly between the two young quarterbacks, Watson made an impressive display – despite a few drops from his recipients – while Mahomes appeared mesmerized by an ankle injury and threw for 41 yards in the second half.
It seemed as they jumped to a 17-3 lead just like the Chiefs might dominate.
Hill scored the first touchdown in fashion that was dramatic as he leapt above two defenders to claim a deep pass.
Running Hyde, who had been traded before the start of the year from the Chiefs, then fumbled to the Texans first offensive play to give the ball directly back into the Chiefs.
Even though the Texans was able to hold on the Chiefs into a field goal and then got on the board with a field goal of their own, a drive finished off by Damien Williams made it 17-3.
The Texans strike back in the second quarter as they held the Chiefs scoreless.
Duke Johnson dived to the corner to reduce the lead earlier Mahomes was at the end zone – his first interception in passing attempts.
Before the Texans additional things in the 16, hyde scored following an 80-yard drive.
Harrison Butker overlooked a 50-yard field goal also, Mahomes fumbled near his target line , after Watson was hit fourth and one with 40 seconds on the clock.
Advantage was taken by the Texans conducted in for the touchdown to make it 23-17 at half-time.
The Chiefs recovered composure in the third quarter then hit back with another touchdown out of Hill, who had been wide open when Mahomes pass collected in the end zone.
It seemed just like the momentum could be with the side as Charvarius Ward created a interception in the end zone following a bad fall from DeAndre Hopkins near the goal line.
However, the Chiefs went three and out on their next possession and then couldnt prevent a touchdown push from the Texans that lasted eight-and-a-half moments.
Watson then arrowed a pass to Hopkins for the conversion and ran from the touchdown himself.
The deficit could not cut since they punted back into the Texans and were subsequently able to create a halt as the Texans converted on fourth down to seal the win.
As they go on the road to face AFC West rivals Denver 23, the Chiefs are next in action on Thursday Night Football. They then host the Green Bay Packers in Week Eight.
The Texans traveling to face AFC South rivals Indianapolis Colts in Week two in Week Eight prior to a home match against the Oakland Raiders.
