Chiellini might not be back until March and has undergone operation in Austria.
“This afternoon (Tuesday), Giorgio Chiellini underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament of the perfect knee,” the team confirmed on their official site.
“The intervention, performed at the Hochrum clinic at Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink in the presence of the Juventus Club Doctor, Dr. Tzouroudis, was absolutely Profitable.
“The expected recovery period is around six months.”
As they look to claim their ninth consecutive Italian title juve have won their opening two games of the Serie A season but they must now do without one of the key performers.
They have to navigate a demanding Champions League Group D that contains Bayer Leverkusen Atletico Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Chiellini would be to return to action for those quarter-finals of this contest, if Juventus make it that far.
