Joe Root: I’m the right man to lead England’s Test cricket team
Joe Root has insisted he is still the man to take England’s cricket team ahead despite criticism of his own captaincy.
Throughout the Ashes, Test captain Root scored 325 runs at 32.5, the next most runs out of an England player and the sixth most complete.
In addition, he took three wickets in 40.66 and created seven grabs, with only wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow making more for the hosts.
However his batting has suffered and Australia retained the Ashes however, Root claims he’s the perfect person to lead the side in future.
He said:”I need to be 100 per cent. I love it.
“I am very honoured to captain England and I wish to take this team forward.
“I really do believe I am the right person to take action. Hopefully I can get the financing and that I can prove everyone .”
Even the Yorkshire batsman admitted the famous plan to turn around their white-ball game of England, culminating in their magnificent World Cup win this summer, needed to be replicated from red-ball cricket.
He continued:”Winning the Ashes rear is a enormous attention for English cricket, it has to be today.
“Winning down in Australia are a great achievement and for me personally as Test captain I want to really push that.
“We need to be as ready as we can be and that ought to begin today. I am actually excited about beginning this winter and it will be a very exciting journey.”
One-day and T20 vice-captain Jos Buttler stated the team already had the hallmarks of Root captaincy.
“Joe’s place his stamp on the group ! He has been for a little while. Of course we need more consistent results but we’ve got the makings of a very good team.”
Bowler Stuart Broad added:”You simply have to look in Joe’s captaincy document, and it is more successful than most England captains. The players are well aware we could be more consistent, and we are going to deliver that.”
