After Liverpool maintained their 100% record with a 3-1 triumph over Newcastle defending champions Manchester City suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at Norwich City.
Chelsea picked up a 5-2 win at Wolves, while Tottenham cruised past Crystal Palace 4-0.
As Watford regained to draw 2-2 with 21, manchester United returned to winning ways with a win over Leicester.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth won Southampton secured a win at Brighton and Sheffield United drew.
Here’s my team of this week have a read and select your own under.
David de Gea: The save from Leicester’s James Maddison using just a few minutes gone was outstanding along with the suggestion over the bar from a Ben Chilwell strike that has been dealt with an effort that had menace.
De Gea took some rod to the conclusion of last year from those who must have known better. The proposition that the Spain keeper should’ve been left from their Manchester United team line-up was hysterical as it gets.
Reports which De Gea is close to signing a new contract puts some of those comments into their appropriate perspective and it will be the best piece of company United’ve done for a time.
Did you know? David de Gea has kept as many Premier League wash sheets at Old Trafford this season (two ) as he did at the entirety of this 2018-19 effort.
Serge Aurier: Every time I have seen Aurier drama for Tottenham I’ve been left desperately disappointed and often angry. Disappointed because of his lack of performance and mad due to his inability to honor the depth of quality.
Where there are a couple of respectable teams in the league but also the most challenging and most demanding league in the 26, That is not France. To that fact the Paris St-Germain defender awakened against Crystal Palace and played it. And about time.
Did you know? In addition to providing an assist, Aurier made more crosses from open play (4) than any other participant in Spurs’ win over Crystal Palace.
Fikayo Tomori: What’s goal. What’s more he supposed it. This functionality by this youngster was outstanding along with his goal only tells half of the story.
Playing at a back three, he had been amazing. Tomori’s assurance provide the help for Tammy Abraham and to select the ball into the danger area imply this lad is no standard defender. This is on.
In terms of Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, it’s hardly surprising their centre-forward looked dead on his feet – morning, he just returned in Mexico City on Thursday and expects to bother Chelsea 48 hours afterwards? Wolves can’t handle Europe and breaks that are worldwide. Ditch Europe.
Did you know? Tomori’s long-range strike against Wolves was just his next English league goal in his career, in what had been his 81st such appearance (excluding play-offs) for Chelsea, Brighton, Hull and Derby.
Harry Maguire: Many players really look forward to playing with their former teams – I really don’t know because I hated it. Maguire not only appeared to enjoy playing against the players he called his team-mates but barely gave a kick to them.
Leicester lovers felt the necessity to boo their former participant made them a sum of money and having given them wonderful service by agreeing to be sold to Manchester United makes you wonder exactly what was it about the transfer that actually upset them!
Did you know? Against his previous Leicester, Harry Maguire won half his 10 duels, four of the six aerial duels, made five clearances and won six occasions to ownership to help his side.
Andrew Robertson: It must have been excruciating to see that the player he attracted to football rip his resurgent Newcastle apart.
The international has been exceptional yet for Liverpool. Robertson was entirely responsible and effective down the left wing of Liverpool for Sadio Mane opening goal. My only criticism of Robertson is somebody who strikes at the ball as quickly as he does need to be getting more shots on goal. He has the firepower apply the confidence.
Did you know? Robertson has made 17 aids in the Premier League because the start of the 2017-18 period, the most of any defender within this period.
Midfielders – Moussa Djenepo (Southampton), Emiliano Buendia (Norwich), Todd Cantwell (Norwich)
Moussa Djenepo: The purpose was simply wonderful. We’d be revealing that this goal every week if this had been scored by David Ginola, Thierry Henry or Gianfranco Zola.
It was Djenepo who produced a bit of magic from Southampton’s 2-0 defeat of Brighton lately but this has become something of a habit. Have the Saints discovered another Sadio Mane? I believe that they could have you know.
Did you know? Against Sheffield United, summer-signing Moussa Djenepo netted his Premier League goal for Southampton courtesy of his third shot on target from the competition.
Emiliano Buendia: I have seen Norwich inside this mood earlier if they beat Manchester United a few years back and United superstars were given no regard at all on that day either by also the Canaries. It was just like seeing history repeat itself, just this time it was against the arch rivals and neighbours of United.
Manchester City were blitzed from Norwich but this time it wasn’t Anthony Pilkington who amazed the traffic however Emiliano Buendia. The Argentine, a #1.5m registering in Getafe, was glorious. What a contrast to his fellow countryman, the 28.5m Nicolas Otamendi who had a complete shocker.
Did you know? In their win over Man City, Buendia won more duels (10), had the joint-most rolls (61) and tackles (4), completed the maximum dribbles (5) and won ownership (9) more than every other Norwich player.
Todd Cantwell? Another England who looks like a player?
Cantwell wanted to be involved in what if you’re an attacking midfielder it will not get better than that and Norwich did. There was something about the performance of Cantwell that reminded me using a sprinkle of arrogance but of a Frank Lampard – and that I liked it.
It took too long to acquire the jet lag. It seems like that the international break might have already robbed City of the Premier League title.
Did you know? Todd Cantwell has been directly involved in much more Premier League goals in five games this year (4 – 2 goals, 2 assists) than that he had been in 24 Championship appearances last year (3 – 1 goal, two assists).
Son Heung-min: ” I can not think Son has not scored a hat-trick in the Premier League. It should be the South Korea 19, if anybody deserves to have that statistic firmly according to his CV.
Son were freezing was electric against a Crystal Palace side that are blowing cold and hot these days also against Spurs. I know manager Mauricio Pochettino spent an hour in a”clear the air” fulfilling his players. Would he mind saving those discussions if that’s the answer?
Did you know? Son Heung-min is Spurs’ top scorer across all contests in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tammy Abraham: his first goal his next better against Wolves was okay and also his third outstanding. I said recently said that Frank Lampard’d seen something in this child and we are clearly starting to find exactly the exact same thing.
If he can stay fit, stay from the pubs and nightclubs and look after himself Chelsea might have found a Peter Osgood. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a English center of Abraham’s size and prestige move round the pitch and be so competent on the ball.
Osgood was a genius and Abraham has some thing to do to become close but the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle are all there. They simply have to get placed in the right places.
Did you know? Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has become only the third player in Premier League history to score a few goals in three consecutive appearances following Dele Alli in January 2017 and Cristiano Ronaldo in December 2006.
Sadio Mane: It was very fitting that the global was placed by Mane’s two goals against Newcastle along with other African titles who have scored 70 goals in the Premier League.
It was nice to watch Mohamed Salah congratulating Mane on his goals at Southampton following their rapping. The goal of salah was magnificent but he has to realise he has to concede the spotlight to team-mates about the event.
Did you know? Liverpool’s Sadio Mane hasn’t missing a Premier League home game where he has found the net, winning 33 and drawing two of the 35 games at the competition when doing this.
You have seen my selections this year. However, who would you opt for?
Pick your XI.
Howay the lads! The unseemly spat between two of the best finishers of England made me grin in the beginning and then realise that not much changes in soccer. For 2 players, particularly strikers, to”have words” with each other is like owning a row with one wife. It is likely to happen sooner or later.
In Michael Owen’s recently published book; Reboot – My Life, My Time, he seems to have reopened now Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer and an old wound with England team-mate. It’s apparent Michael desperately wanted to find something when he promised that he never wished to visit St James’ Park.
I suspect Shearer could have let that go. Nonetheless, what Newcastle’s record goalscorer could not let go was the claim from Owen his beloved Newcastle was”just a large club because they have lots of fans and a large arena”.
I don’t have any doubt that Alan and Michael will find a way past this public disagreement but Newcastle lovers will find forgiveness difficult.
