Bundee Aki: Ireland centre has Rugby World Cup ban upheld
Ireland center Bundee Aki was banned from the rest of the Rugby World Cup after the red card he received in the pool period against Samoa has been upheld.
Aki will miss Irelands along with the ban means that he would miss out on any matches should Joe Schmidts facet advance.
The Samoan-born rear has been sent off for a tackle on UJ Seuteni on Saturday during the 47-5 triumph on the Pacific Islanders of Ireland.
A statement from championship organisers explained that a separate judicial committeedid not find that the referees conclusion was wrong and the red card had been declared.
Although the tackle occurred immediately, the players tackle height was high and it was accepted he didnt create a definite effort to modify his elevation so as to prevent the ball carriers head, the statement said.
The committee did not accept there was adequate evidence of a surprising drop at the ball carriers elevation.
Samoa head trainer Steve Jackson made an impassioned defence of Akis future participation in the tournament after the match, and said his staff woulddo whatever we can to ensure he gets on the field next week.
