2019 NCAAF Betting Preview: Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State Cyclones
OVER 8 Wins?? -125
The Cyclones are returning 14 starters and are directed by one of the head coaching commodities in college football and that is Matt Campbell. Campbell was sought after by groups at the NFL but feels as though something special is being built by him in Ames, Iowa.
Iowa State is one of only two teams in the Big 12 (the other being the Oklahoma Sooners) to acquire eight games in each of the last two seasons. This group contains five players that are preseason All-Americans and a quarterback in passing performance last effort in Brock Purdy who led The Big 12.
You heard that Brock Purdy needed a better efficiency than Heisman winner Kyler Murray of Oklahoma and Heisman optimistic Sammy Ehlinger of both Texas. Purdy really turned this team around from the second half of this season as he added 14 more points a game when he was named the newcomer.
In the backfield NFL-bound David Montgomery will be missed by that the Cyclones but have the void to fill.
The Cyclone defense will be exceedingly powerful again and directed the Big 12 in total defense. They allowed just 3.3 yards per carry, a marker that has been ninth-best in the nation. Since the conference was set in 1996, Iowa State had never finished first in scoring defense till they eventually did it in their turnaround year that was spectacular in 18.
Tons of strong players return such as standout security Greg Einsworth (led team with 87 tackles), defensive end DaQuan Bailey (8 sacks, 14.5 tackles for a loss), along with linebackers Marcel Spears and Mike Rose.
Campbells team ended the season by winning seven of its last eight matches and has high expectations heading into the 2019 year old. Now getting to eight-plus wins isnt just something I feel that they will perform but a conference championship match is within their reach.
In their non-conference program theyve only twocake games, vs Northern Iowa and also Louisiana-Monroe, but lodged between these games they have their in-state competitions, the Hawkeyes of Iowa. It is time for the Cyclones to make an early-season statement along with a triumph on the Hawkeyes (Iowa has won four straight in this series) can do exactly that.
Their road conference competitions are Baylor, West Virginia, Texas Tech (at AT&T Stadium) and Kansas State, all groups that the Cyclones defeat a year past. They do play another street game and that is vs Oklahoma. The Cyclones shocked Heisman winner Baker Mayfield 38-31 and that the Sooners before you count that as a loss, dont forget two years back in Norman.
The week after that game the Longhorns venture into Jack Trice Stadium in the match that will determine who gets a potential tiebreaker. Though Texas has a solid head coach in Tom Herman along with a potent offense, the Longhorns will not have the ability to keep up with this Cyclones also return only 3 starters on defense.
Things are changing in the Big 12 and the Iowa State Cyclones are the No. 1??change that will select the convention by storm.
